— The Gulf

One of Europe’s most
important ecosystems.

The Ambracian Gulf is one of Greece’s largest enclosed bays — a National Park, a Ramsar protected wetland, and a UNESCO site of outstanding biodiversity. It is an inland sea of extraordinary ecological importance, sheltered from the open Mediterranean by a narrow channel at Preveza.

The Gulf is home to a resident population of over 120 bottlenose dolphins — one of the largest in the eastern Mediterranean. Loggerhead sea turtles feed here year-round. Over 250 bird species have been recorded, including Dalmatian pelicans, flamingos, herons, and rare migratory species.

We are an active member of the World Cetacean Alliance and work with marine biology departments at Greek universities to monitor and protect the dolphin population. Every cruise contributes data to ongoing research.
